We understand that it is worrying enough when your pet becomes ill, but this is far more distressing if your pet is suddenly taken unwell outside of surgery hours. Historically veterinary practices have provided out of hours care with vets 'on call' and skeletal nursing staff. When dealing with out of hours veterinary emergencies a rapid response from a vet that has not been called from their bed, a full team of nurses, and specialised equipment dramatically increases chances of a good outcome for your pet.
As a practice we feel it is important to provide the best care possible, and consequently took the decision in 2000 to subscribe to the Queen Mother Hospital Emergency Service for patients that fall ill out of hours.
The Queen Mother Hospital Emergency Service (as seen on BBC Super Vets) is staffed 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year by a team of 15 vets and more than 20 nurses.
The Queen Mother Hospital is located at the Royal Veterinary College Hawkshead Campus.
